"The sun is a daily reminder that we too can rise again from the darkness, that we too can shine our own light." — S. Ajna
Here’s what I learned or was reminded of this week:
We go where our desire points. If your wants pull you ten ways, your focus does, too.
This week, we point the beam. Small, clear, repeatable actions now = big wins for your Future Self.
“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.” (Proverbs 4:25)
Inspiration for this week’s newsletter? Relative to choice skills, we attend only to what we have a desire to attend to. If our desires are scattered in several directions, or attention will be, too. The strength or singularity desire will contribute to the quality of concentration.
🔥 Pick ONE want for this week and make it tiny.
Write it in 7 words or less: “Ship the deck draft,” “Call the top lead,” “Post the idea.” Say it out loud each morning: “Future Me, I’m doing this today.” Put it at the very start of your day. When your brain asks, “What now?” you already know. Make it so simple you can’t avoid it—five focused minutes counts as a win. This is identity first: I act like the person I’m becoming, not the person I’m avoiding.
🔥 Protect the want with a “No List.”
Make three hard “no’s” that guard your yes. Example: No email before 10am, no meetings in the first hour, no “quick peeks” at social during deep work. Add an easy If‑Then: “If a shiny task pops up, then I park it on a Later List.” You’re training attention like a muscle. Less scatter = more power. Your Future Self will feel the lift.
🔥 Change your state before you change your plan.
When energy dips, plans feel heavy. Do a 60‑second reset: breathe in 4, out 6; stand up and move; then coach yourself in third‑person: “Mike, you’ve got this—one small step.” Smile at the meme flying around that says, “Ain’t nobody safe when…” and finish it with something helpful: “…I let tiny stresses run my day.” Now flip it: “Ain’t nobody safe when I slow my breath and start small.” This turns drama into direction.
🔥 See it, then rep it (x3).
Close your eyes for 20 seconds. Picture the finish (email sent, deck saved, call done). Open your eyes and take one micro‑action. Do three tiny reps back‑to‑back: 1 minute write, 1 minute tidy, 1 minute send. Athletes don’t wait for perfect moods; they practice the shot. You’re practicing being Future You—today.
🔥 Heads‑up is not the same as heads‑down.
Screens just got louder: phones now blast brighter, always‑on info; even glasses can flash messages in your lens with a wrist band to control them. Great tech—stronger pull. So claim a daily HUD‑Off Hour: do not disturb on, brightness down, side‑feeds off, one‑tab only. Write the one want at the top of the page and don’t leave until you move it forward. Tools serve your focus; they don’t set it.
